Will we ever know the truth about Abrego Garcia

Sadly, I don’t know if we will ever know the truth about Abrego Garcia, or the migrant smuggling allegations that have suddenly manifested.

*However, the fact that Ben Schrader (after 15 years with the US attorney’s office), chief of the criminal division for the Middle District of Tennessee, resigned *IN PROTEST* when he learned of this planned indictment, certainly should give one pause regarding the validity of these sudden allegations, especially in light of what they did with the photos of Garcia’s hands and the fake tattoos. 😔

According to the Reuters article linked below, the witnesses are either under federal investigation or are currently serving prison sentences.

One has to wonder why no one came forward earlier if there was a deal to be made that would either keep them out of prison or shorten their sentence. 🤔

Why now?
Why now, after President Trump said we should bring Garcia back and show the American people how terrible this man is?  🤔

If the allegations are true, he is merely a  Harriet Tubman for migrants, with one major difference – he was getting paid to do it.

He didn’t help them cross the border, he helped them get deeper into the country after they arrived.

If convicted, and I doubt he will be, unless they produce more believable witnesses or some actual evidence, he could be sentenced to 10 years per person he helped.

Note that I used the word “helped,” and I did so intentionally.

He did not leave behind a string of victims.

He helped people.

He didn’t help them murder or assault anyone.

He didn’t help them steal money or commit fraud.

He simply helped them move to a safer place.

In stark contrast, rapists and murderers rarely get life sentences (2% and 1-in-7 respectively), but then again, they’re usually homegrown boys. Now you can argue that they only hurt one person – but that is so far from the truth.

The truth about victims

Every victim’s struggle affects their families and their friends, as well as their communities. It changes their lives entirely and forever.

I’ve always found it disturbing that you can go to prison for the majority of your life if you steal money or commit fraud, but less if you cause physical harm. 🤦

Our government’s current Love of money, along with their love of the people with the most money, truly seems to be the root of all our evil. 😔
