A daily dose of vitamins could help those suffering from osteoporosis. It is thought that homocysteine, along with lack of calcium and vitamin d, causes osteoporosis.
Latest research shows that vitamins B12 and folate, or folic acid, can lower homocysteine levels. Research shows that stroke patients using B12 and folate had a five times lower risk of fracture compared to those using a placebo. But they had to exercise too to strengthen their bones. The dose of vitamin B12 they used in the study that was shown to be effective was 1500 micrograms by mouth daily. The dose of folic acid was 5 milligrams daily.
